WOMAN OF FAITH LAUNCHES NEW CONFERENCE TOUR WITH STOMPING ROOM ONLY
Thelma Wells, Known Worldwide as a Women of Faith Speaker, Launches Free Ready to Win Conference Tour in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, May 22 and 23
GARLAND, TX:Two days in a row, little Thelma Louise ran away from a schoolyard bully—until her granny told her to fight back. Drawing from strategies she had seen at civil rights protests and watching her favorite masked hero perform on TV, on the third day Thelma rose from hiding to overcome the bully. That was the last time former Women of Faith speaker and popular author Thelma Wells fought with her fists. During her first-ever Ready To Win conference on May 22 and 23, the courageous trailblazer will pass on to women her four-point battle-ready stance, as well as the wisdom her granny shared all those years ago.
The Ready To Win conference is free and open to women, offering much-needed refreshment in the midst of a depressing U.S. economic downturn that saw unemployment rise to 8 percent in February. With a vision to take the conference nationwide, Wells hopes Ready To Win will inspire women to throw back their heads, laugh, and find joy in the midst of inevitable struggles with family, relationships, finances, health, broken dreams, disappointments or just the daily-ness of life. It will be held at the Special Events Center in Garland, TX. For individual and group tickets and other information, please visit online at www.thelmawells.com.
“Fix your hair, pad your heart, tighten your girdle, and put on your stomping shoes!” are the basic tenets of doing battle Thelma-style. Based on her new book Don’t Give In - God Wants You To Win (Harvest House, 2009) and taken from Ephesians 6 in the Bible, Ready To Win will feature Wells’ signature messages of faith and encouragement.
“Winning is not about brilliance or intelligence,” Wells says. “ It’s really about humbling ourselves before the mighty hand of God, trusting in Him with all our soul and mind, forgiving ourselves and others for everything done to us, and seeking forgiveness for everything we’ve done to others.”
In addition, the conference will offer one-hour breakout sessions led by a diverse panel of eight life skills coaches, including, Marcia Ramsland, Gail Hayes, Ellie Kay, Michael & Heidi O'Brien, Penny Crosson, Danna Demetre, and Joanna Faillace. Special music guests are Anthony Evans and a soon-to-be announced surprise special guest vocalist (See website at www.thelmawells.com for clues). And, Lois Evans, Anthony’s mother and First Lady of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship of Dallas, will receive special recognition for outstanding ministry service.
In 1996, Wells’ penchant for storytelling won the attention of Women of Faith, making her the first black core speaker of one of the world’s most popular women’s tours. More recently in 2008, Thelma was selected as Woman of the Year by Extraordinary Women Conferences. Before that, she earned her Bachelor’s degree from what is now the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, and received a Master’s of Ministry degree from Master’s International School of Divinity in Evansville, IN. In 2002 she became the school’s first black female professor. She and her husband of 45 years live in Texas and have 14 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After many years of ministry service, Wells shows no signs of slowing down. Through A Woman of God Ministries, and the launch of Ready To Win, Thelma continues to build a legacy of faithfulness and encouragement to women that will extend far and wide into the distance.
“We want women to win in all areas, to value themselves, their vision and passions; to overcome difficulties, limitations and hardships; and to become winners and not victims,” she concludes.
